Happy New Year – BIG News for 2026: A New Boat Is Coming!
February 4, 2026
Happy New Year! I’m kicking things off with some exciting news for the upcoming season and beyond.
By July 1, 2026, I’ll be fishing from a custom-built Alumaweld Columbia XL, crafted through Stevens Marine in Tigard, Oregon. This center console beast measures 28 feet long, features a 14° V hull, and carries a 112-inch beam. That makes it 3 feet longer and 10 inches wider than my current boat—an absolute game changer and an incredible fishing platform.
New Boat Specs & Features
This new rig is built for performance, comfort, and serious fishing:
- 4.6L V8 250 HP main engine
- 15 HP kicker motor
- Electric trolling motor
- Dual 16” Garmin chartplotters
- Garmin LiveScope
- Suspension seats (yes sir!)
I can’t wait to get this boat on the water and share the experience with you.
Portland Sportsman’s Show – February 11–15
The Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show is coming up soon, and I’ll be attending once again at the Portland Expo Center, helping Fish Fighter Products with their display.
Stop by, say hello, and drop off an entry (with a legible email address) for a chance to win a FREE Walleye fishing trip for four this March. Business cards work great, and the email address you provide is how I’ll notify the winner.
Spring Walleye – Early Season Action
Early spring fishing starts strong on the Columbia River above the I-97 Bridge near Rufus, Oregon, targeting Walleye from March 1 through at least mid-April.
Ask me about my introductory “Spring Shorty’s” private boat rate, designed to make 4-angler private trips much more affordable during this timeframe.
- Must be booked before March 1
- Other restrictions apply
- Early birds get the worm on this deal
Spring Chinook & Sturgeon
For Spring Chinook, my advice is to wait until mid-April. From there, we stay location-flexible to chase the best bites for Spring Chinook and catch-and-release Sturgeon from mid-April through July.
Trips run on the lower Columbia River between Portland and Astoria, with some dates offering Salmon/Sturgeon combo trips. A limited number of Spring Shorty’s are available here as well.
May Halibut – PRIME Time
May is halibut prime time, and I’ll be hosting a limited number of halibut trips out of Newport, Oregon with my trusted friend Captain Dave Grigsby of Fish Fever Guide Service.
You’ll fish from his high-speed North River Offshore, fully outfitted with:
- Electric reels
- Heated pilot house
- Spacious and comfortable layout
$350 per angler, per day
Reach out for details and let’s get you on the books.
Summer Walleye Near Portland
June and July are prime months for Summer Walleye near Portland, primarily fishing the Multnomah Channel on the Willamette River.
This fishery is a favorite for good reason:
- Consistent action
- Great weather
- Opportunity to catch Walleye and other warm-water species
If you like to hold the rod, this is the trip for you. We use super-light gear to troll and jig—perfect for anglers who want to show off their skills.
Pacific & Lower Columbia Salmon
We enjoyed some truly outstanding Coho and Chinook Salmon fishing in 2025, both offshore and upriver. One group even landed a quint offshore last season.
Here’s the general plan:
- Late July: Ocean fishing begins
- August: Prime action around Astoria (very popular—plan early)
- Early September: Upriver near Rainier or St. Helens to finish the season strong
July, August, and September are my busiest and most productive months for salmon fishing. Let’s get your group booked.
Why Fight Club Outdoors?

It’s truly a blessing to spend the day with people who are having fun, and I look forward to meeting you on the water.
